There are a number of publications which give theories about the origins of surnames, some of which include theories about the origins of the surnames in this One-Name Study, namely Becket, Beckett, Bicket, Bickett, and Bichan.  However, most of what is theorized in these publications is unsupported and incorrect to the extent that we have been able to research those origins ourselves.  (The main value of these publications is the citations they give of early uses of the surnames, and even these are not very comprehensive.)
